Joe’s Stone Crab

Miami’s Oldest Restaurant (2nd oldest restaurant in Florida)

Joe’s Stone Crab is a Miami staple. Starting in 1913 as a lunch counter by the beach, Joe’s has become the 2nd oldest restaurant in Florida and oldest in Miami. All of this information is accessible via Joe’s Stone Crab website but we gained our knowledge from our informative server, Yogi.

Yogi even taught me how to eat a snow crab!

7 Steps to Eating a Crab Claw (NY Matinee @ Joe’s Stone Crab)

  1. Pull the loose claw off, throw loose claw in claw bowl
  2. Use other claw to hold the crab
  3. Use a fork to get pieces of the shell off
  4. Lime
  5. Butter
  6. Mustard
  7. Bite down, not too hard, pull off meat with teeth

Joe’s is open 7 days a week for dinner. They are open 5 days a week for lunch. There is no lunch service on Mondays or Tuesdays (bar opens at 4:30p). Lunch is served Wednesday-Sunday from 11:30a-2:30p. You can view the menu here. Keep in mind that they seat for dinner at 5p on the dot everyday. If you arrive early, grab a drink from the bar while you wait. Dining room closes at 10p every night except Friday and Saturday when it closes at 11p.

Joe’s Stone Crab has almost 4,000 reviews on Google and a 4.6 star rating. Pricing is $$$ expensive so expect to pay around $30-$50 per person, not including drinks. If you are going with a group and plan on sharing dishes, the price may be lower…depending on what you order.

Be advised there is a dress code that expects neat and clean dining attire.

Joe’s has everything you would expect from a beachside seafood restaurant….lots of wine, lots of butter, and lots of claws. They are best known for the Joe’s Mule, stone crabs, and key lime pie. We ordered the Joe’s Mule, hamburger with chips, add lobster tail, house recommended Chardonnay, and stone crabs.

…and yes they still give out bibs!
