Temple Bar

Mysterious Cocktail Bar with Small Bites and Late Hours

Temple Bar is a NYU student hotspot.  Located on the corner of Lafayette and Bleeker, Temple Bar is a 5 minute walk to NYU campus and less than 10 minutes to Washington Square Park by foot.  It is conveniently located by public transportation, both subway and bus.  The closest subway and bus stop is the Broadway-Lafayette Street Station on Lafayette and East Houston.  The B,D,F train stops here as does the M bus.  You can also take the 4 & train to Astor Place or the N,Q,R,W, train to the 8th Street Station.

Once you arrive, you should be on the lookout for the dark building with what looks like a lizard skeleton on the outside.  If you aren’t looking, you might miss it.  The mystery of the outside matches the vibe on the inside.  The bar area is dimly lit so you may lose track of time as the night creeps into the early morning hours…which may happen since Temple Bar is open until 3am on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

Temple Bar is open daily at 5pm.  Closing hours vary.  Sunday closing time is 1am.  Monday through Wednesday is 2am.  Thursday through Saturday is 3am.  With over 130 Google reviews, Temple Bar is rated 3.9 stars.  The food menu ranges from inexpensive (nuts, olive, fries, chocolate chip cookie) to moderately expensive (pigs in a blanket, grilled cheese, shrimp cocktail, beef sliders, etc.).  The drink menu pricing ranges, with cocktails and martinis at $21, non-alcoholic beverages at $14, champagne (by the bottle) averaging $100, wine (by the bottle) averaging $100, champagne (by the glass) averaging $27, wine (by the glass) averaging $20, and limited offering of beer averaging $11.  Pricing is comparable to other bars in the area and the Google reviews highly rate and recommend the martinis.

If you are like us and go to the bar with the intention only to drink…but once you are there you want to, Temple Bar is for you.  With high quality cocktails and enjoyable bar food, it is a great stop for a casual night out.  We personally would not be out until 3am…or 2am…or 1am…(we are in bed by 9pm!) but would enjoy Temple Bar for a post-work drink and bite or post-dinner drink and dessert.

Reservations are recommended via Google but are not required if you just want a spot at the bar.  The bar does get rather packed around 7pm-9pm and stays pretty busy until at least midnight.  Walk-ins are welcome so make sure to stop in if you are ever strolling down Bleeker!
