New York City has no shortage of barbecue, but Kirbee’s in Greenpoint has arrived with some serious Texas credentials—and a menu that may make you reconsider whatever you had planned for lunch.
Located at 55 McGuinness Boulevard South, Kirbee’s is the new Texas-style barbecue joint from two highly acclaimed pitmasters: Jonny White of Goldee’s Bar-B-Q in Fort Worth and Chuck Charnichart of Barbs B Q in Lockhart, Texas. The duo has brought their Texas barbecue expertise to Brooklyn, creating a small, casual restaurant that feels more like a roadside BBQ stop than a traditional NYC restaurant.
And then there’s the brisket.
Kirbee’s menu combines White’s modern Texas barbecue approach with Charnichart’s South Texas and Mexican-inspired flavors. Expect smoked brisket, pork ribs, turkey and sides including charro beans, potato salad, coleslaw and the now-famous green spaghetti—a creamy poblano pasta that has already become one of the restaurant’s most talked-about dishes.
The setup is intentionally simple. You line up, order your meat and sides, get everything served on a tray lined with butcher paper and find a place to eat. The Greenpoint space seats only around 20 to 24 people, so this isn’t exactly the restaurant for a leisurely three-hour lunch.
Kirbee’s is currently open Friday through Sunday from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m., or until it sells out, making the weekend barbecue run feel appropriately competitive.
The restaurant’s name has a double meaning, referencing White’s dog and the pink video-game character Kirby. Because apparently even the name comes with a little Texas-meets-Brooklyn personality.
So if you’re searching for the best BBQ in NYC, Kirbee’s is officially one of the new names to know.
Just get there early.
Because nothing says New York quite like traveling across Brooklyn to wait in line for brisket.
