Sakagura
Hidden Gem of a Japanese Restaurant in Mid-Town Manhattan
Sakagura is a celeb favorite. It is also a NYC restaurant you want to add to your list if coming to the city for a visit…Sakagura is within walking distance to many NYC landmarks such as the Grand Central Station, The Chrysler Building and UN Headquarters. Located on 43rd between 2nd and 3rd, the crowds are drawn to this speakeasy-esque restaurant due to its atmosphere and privacy. One Google reviewer describes it as a “hidden Japanese restaurant with world class sake and tasty food”.
Sakagura is open Monday-Saturday and closed on Sundays.
The lunch menu is served Monday-Friday, 11:45am-2pm. On the lunch menu you can choose from a variety of soba dishes as well as authentic Japanese entrees. A few of the many options includes Tori Karrage (Japanese Fried Chicken), Buta Shoga (Sautéed Pork with Ginger) and Uni Don (Sea Urchin Sashimi Over Rice). Please note that lunch is not served on Saturdays.
The dinner menu is served Monday-Saturday, 5:30pm-10pm. There are many options available on the dinner menu that are not on the lunch menu and vice versa (meaning you may want to make reservations for both lunch and dinner…). The dinner menu is broken down into different sections…these sections include Japanese inspired appetizers (such as crudite with miso sake-kasu dip and sautéed vegetables with sesame oil), salads, cold entrees, warm entrees, warm seafood, warm meat…and we cannot forget about dessert.
Sakagura has over 1,000 reviews on Google and 4.5 star rating. Pricing is rated as $$$ (expensive) but after looking at the prices of both lunch and dinner, it is definitely less expensive than other restaurants with this same price rating. Some meals are more expensive than others but if you take into account the quality of the meal and culinary creativity of every bite, it is worth every penny.
Wondering how this fits into #Deuxmoimademedoit ? Sakagura was mentioned in @deuxmoi‘s Sunday Spotted on January 9 for an Emrata sighting. It is unclear when the sighting was from but the submission was featured with an image of the back of a man exiting the restaurant (confirmed to be Eric Andre) with the comment “Spotted emrata and eric andre eating dinner at sakagura in midtown last night, last ones in the restaurant”.
