New York commuters are about to discover that Grand Central Terminal has a new way to lose money—and this time, it comes with oversized dice.
From October 2 through October 4, 2026, Vanderbilt Hall inside Grand Central will transform into a life-sized Monopoly board, giving New Yorkers and visitors the chance to literally walk around the iconic game. The free pop-up is being presented by Visit Atlantic City in partnership with Hasbro.
Yes, this means you can actually step onto the board instead of arguing over who gets to be the dog.
The three-day life-sized Monopoly experience will feature giant dice, destination-themed game pieces and spaces inspired by Atlantic City, including its famous Boardwalk, casinos, restaurants, entertainment and attractions.
There will also be plenty of photo opportunities, giveaways and prizes, because apparently simply standing inside Grand Central wasn’t Instagram-worthy enough.
And then there’s Mr. Monopoly himself, who is scheduled to make an appearance. Expect the top hat, mustache and the unmistakable energy of a man who has apparently never had to pay New York City rent.
One of the more intriguing parts of the activation involves saltwater taffy. Visit Atlantic City says one bag will contain a golden piece of taffy, and the first player to find it can win an Atlantic City Grand Prize Getaway Package.
The event will be free and open to the public, running from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day in Vanderbilt Hall.
The Atlantic City connection isn’t random, either. Many of the classic Monopoly board’s street names were inspired by Atlantic City streets, making the pop-up a playful nod to the game’s history and the New Jersey resort town that helped inspire its familiar geography.
For anyone searching for free things to do in NYC, Grand Central events, Monopoly NYC or October events in New York City, this one deserves a spot on the calendar.
Just remember: unlike the regular subway commute, passing Go is actually encouraged.
