Carnegie Deli is back—and thankfully, so is the appetite for ridiculously good pastrami.

New York, prepare your appetite: Carnegie Deli is officially back, and the legendary Midtown institution is proving that some New York classics don’t just deserve a comeback—they deserve an encore.

After closing its original location in 2016, Carnegie Deli reopened in September at 834 Seventh Avenue, just blocks from its former home and near Carnegie Hall. The new location occupies the former Stage Deli space, making the return feel almost deliciously poetic.

And yes, the sandwiches are still enormous.

Carnegie Deli built its reputation on sky-high pastrami and corned beef sandwiches, and those famous deli towers are once again landing on tables across Midtown. The menu also brings back the restaurant’s legendary cheesecake, complete with its signature cookie crust, plus plenty of classic New York deli favorites.

But this isn’t simply a nostalgia trip.

The revived Carnegie Deli has been refreshed for a new generation while preserving the personality that made the original such a New York icon. The Wall of Fame remains, packed with celebrity photos, while the dining room offers a classic deli atmosphere with table service and an open kitchen.

There’s even a new menu heavyweight: the Carnegie Deli Colossus, stacked with pastrami, corned beef, turkey, Swiss, coleslaw and Russian dressing on rye. Because apparently a regular sandwich simply wasn’t dramatic enough.

The comeback has already attracted eager New Yorkers and visitors, with lines forming before opening on the first day. And considering Carnegie Deli has been serving oversized sandwiches since 1937, its return feels less like a restaurant reopening and more like a piece of New York City history finding its way home.

Carnegie Deli is back—and thankfully, so is the appetite for ridiculously good pastrami.
