New York has a lot of famous pizza. This is probably not the kind of topping anyone was hoping to discover.
A mouse was spotted crawling across a pile of breadsticks at a Sbarro pizzeria in Crossgates Mall in Albany, New York, and video of the little visitor has quickly made its way around social media. The incident happened September 14, according to the person who recorded it.
The footage shows the mouse making its way around the food display, turning what should have been a fairly standard Sbarro run into an unexpected wildlife encounter.
The customer who filmed the incident, Gary Cadieux, told Storyful that he reported it to the Albany County Health Department that evening. Sbarro subsequently said it launched an investigation and took what it described as precautionary measures.
According to Sbarro, the location was closed for two days for cleaning and sanitizing, while the company and mall management addressed pest-control concerns. The restaurant later reopened following a follow-up health inspection that reportedly found no evidence of pest activity.
So, yes, the mouse got its moment—but it apparently did not get a permanent reservation.
The incident is also a reminder that seeing a mouse at one restaurant location doesn’t automatically mean every location has the same issue. Sbarro operates hundreds of locations in malls, airports, train stations and other venues, and conditions can vary by individual restaurant.
