The Upper East Side is about to get even more dangerous for anyone attempting to walk past a bakery without stopping. Fabrique Bakery is coming to East 69th Street, adding another NYC location for its famously buttery Swedish pastries, cardamom buns and sourdough breads.
The Swedish bakery already has a location at 939 Lexington Avenue, and the new spot is planned for East 69th Street, giving Upper East Siders another chance to experience the Stockholm-born bakery without having to travel very far for a serious pastry fix.
Fabrique is known for bringing the Swedish tradition of fika to New York. Fika is essentially a designated moment to pause for coffee and something sweet—and honestly, New Yorkers could probably use more of those.
The bakery’s signature cardamom buns are the main attraction. Twisted, fragrant and packed with cardamom, they’re the sort of pastry that can turn a quick coffee run into an entirely different afternoon. Cinnamon buns, croissants, cookies and other Scandinavian-style pastries also make up the lineup.
Fabrique also bakes its own sourdough breads, giving the new Upper East Side location plenty of options for people who prefer their carbs savory rather than sugar-coated.
The arrival on East 69th Street is another sign that the Upper East Side bakery scene isn’t slowing down. Between new cafés, international bakeries and established neighborhood favorites, finding a great pastry in the neighborhood is becoming less of a challenge and more of a daily temptation.
An exact opening date for Fabrique Bakery on East 69th Street has not yet been announced, so pastry obsessives will need to keep their eyes peeled.
For anyone searching for new bakeries in NYC, Upper East Side bakeries, Swedish pastries in Manhattan, cardamom buns or the best bakeries on the Upper East Side, Fabrique’s new location should be worth watching.
Your morning coffee just found its future sidekick.
And yes, it’s probably going to be a cardamom bun.
