The West Village is about to get another reason to eat tacos for dinner. Santo Taco is coming to 232 Bleecker Street, bringing the popular NYC taqueria concept to another prime downtown Manhattan address.
Santo Taco has been steadily expanding its footprint around New York City, and this new Bleecker Street location puts its tacos, margaritas and signature steak trompo within easy reach of West Village taco hunters.
The restaurant comes from Santiago Perez, the hospitality veteran and Cosme cofounder behind Santo Taco. The concept focuses on Mexican street food with a contemporary NYC spin, with steak trompo serving as one of the major attractions.
If you’ve never encountered steak trompo, prepare to become emotionally attached. Thinly sliced beef is stacked onto a vertical spit, seasoned and cooked before being shaved directly into a tortilla. It’s essentially the taco equivalent of watching someone make your food and immediately realizing you should have ordered two.
The menu also features carnitas, carne asada, chicken, shrimp and vegetarian tacos, along with burritos, quesadillas and other Mexican favorites. Margaritas and micheladas round out the drinks, because eating a taco without something cold nearby is simply poor planning.
The new Santo Taco NYC location at 232 Bleecker Street is especially well positioned for the neighborhood’s busy restaurant and nightlife scene. It will join a stretch of Bleecker Street already packed with bars, restaurants and shops, making it an easy candidate for a pre-drink taco stop—or the place where “one quick taco” turns into dinner.
An exact opening date for Santo Taco on Bleecker Street has not yet been announced, so taco fans will have to wait a little longer.
