There are rooftop bars in New York, and then there is Overstory NYC, where simply looking out the window can make your cocktail feel like it should cost a little more.
Perched on the 64th floor of 70 Pine Street in the Financial District, Overstory is the cocktail bar from the team behind Crown Shy and Saga. The indoor-outdoor space wraps around the top of the Art Deco skyscraper, delivering sweeping views across Lower Manhattan, Brooklyn and the surrounding waterways.
The view gets the Instagram attention, naturally. But the drinks are the reason people keep coming back.
Overstory launched with a cocktail program led by Harrison Ginsberg, who helped establish the bar as one of New York’s serious cocktail destinations. The drinks are polished and creative without turning the experience into a chemistry lesson. Even its nonalcoholic offerings have received attention, including a remarkably sophisticated green apple soda made with clarified Granny Smith apple juice, mineral water and carbonation.
And then there is the setting.
Overstory was designed to feel glamorous without becoming overly formal—a place where you can order an elaborate cocktail, take in the skyline and pretend you aren’t checking the time because tomorrow morning’s meeting is someone else’s problem.
The bar’s connection to Saga, the two-Michelin-starred restaurant one floor below, also makes it an ideal stop before or after dinner. You don’t need to book Saga to experience Overstory, however, which means you can get the skyscraper views without committing to a full tasting-menu evening.
One interesting 2026 detail: Ginsberg recently departed Overstory after years with the 70 Pine team, moving on to new projects including Bar CC in Chelsea.
