Brooklyn has a new tavern worth raising a martini to. Trudie’s Tavern in Carroll Gardens is bringing old-school New York charm back to Court Street, pairing nostalgic supper-club vibes with comforting food, creative cocktails and desserts that deserve their own standing ovation.

Located at 524 Court Street in the former Buttermilk Channel space, Trudie’s Tavern opened in June 2026. It’s the latest venture from RAD Restaurants, the team behind Brooklyn favorites Gertie and gertrude’s. The restaurant takes inspiration from classic American taverns, with a little Jewish-American culinary nostalgia and plenty of contemporary polish.

Rotisserie Chicken Takes Center Stage

At Trudie’s, the menu makes a convincing argument for skipping the sad desk salad and settling in for a proper meal. Rotisserie chicken arrives with potatoes and cucumber salad, while the kitchen also serves raw-bar favorites, lamb schnitzel, hearty sides and a famously inviting pretzel service.

That pretzel deserves special attention. Fluffy, buttery and served with accompaniments for dipping, it turns the traditional bread basket into a reason to arrive hungry. The menu’s playful approach to comfort food continues with dishes that blend familiar flavors and modern restaurant flair.

Martinis, Mural Magic and Dessert

The drinks are equally appealing, with classic cocktails, American wines and cold beer served in frosted mugs. Whether you’re settling in for date night, meeting friends after work or simply looking for a neighborhood bar with personality, Trudie’s aims to make an ordinary evening feel like an occasion.

The dining room adds to the appeal with white tablecloths, colorful furnishings and a custom mural by artist Izzy Bulling. And don’t even think about leaving without considering dessert: the towering carrot cake and playful banana split provide sweet reasons to linger.

A New Carroll Gardens Favorite?

Trudie’s Tavern strikes a welcome balance between polished dining destination and comfortable neighborhood hangout. For anyone exploring the best new Brooklyn restaurants, this Court Street newcomer deserves a spot on the list.

After all, great taverns are about more than food and drinks. They’re about good company, memorable meals and having absolutely no regrets about ordering that extra pretzel.
