If you were ever mysteriously subscribed to Amazon Prime, struggled to cancel it, or simply wondered why ending a subscription sometimes felt like escaping a particularly determined escape room, there could be money coming your way.
The Amazon Prime settlement automatic refunds are expanding in 2026 following a $2.5 billion settlement between Amazon and the Federal Trade Commission. The FTC alleged that Amazon enrolled millions of consumers in Prime without proper consent and made cancellation unnecessarily difficult. Amazon agreed to provide $1.5 billion in consumer refunds.
And here’s the important update: eligible consumers do not need to file a claim to receive the new automatic payments.
Under the revised settlement order, additional Prime customers who used 11 to 20 Prime benefits during a 12-month period may now qualify. These newly eligible consumers are scheduled to begin receiving automatic payments October 1, 2026, through PayPal, Venmo or mailed checks.
The potential payout has also gotten bigger. Earlier automatic refunds were capped at $51, but the revised order raises the maximum total payment to $200 per eligible consumer. Some people who already received a settlement payment may qualify for an additional payment of up to $149.
To qualify, consumers generally must have been U.S. Prime customers who enrolled through one of the enrollment processes challenged by the FTC or attempted to cancel through the online cancellation process between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025.
The FTC says payments will continue through April 2027.
One very important warning: the FTC will not ask you to pay a fee to receive your Amazon refund. Anyone demanding money or promising a guaranteed payout is waving a giant scam flag.
