New York Fashion Week has officially entered its “we’re just going to pretend we’re in Paris” era.
Chanel has opened a new pop-up in NYC’s Meatpacking District, transforming a space at 873 Washington Street into a café-inspired fragrance experience celebrating its newest scent, Coco Mademoiselle Crush Absolu. The temporary Chanel experience runs across two weekends, September 11–13 and September 18–20, and is free and open to the public.
Naturally, this isn’t your neighborhood fragrance counter.
Inside the Chanel NYC pop-up, visitors can settle in at a café-style bar or table before being guided through a personalized fragrance discovery focused on Coco Mademoiselle Crush Absolu. The experience also includes the wider Coco Mademoiselle collection, complementary hair and body products, plus Chanel makeup. And yes, you can actually shop the products on-site—which is where that innocent “I’m just looking” plan can become considerably more expensive.
The new fragrance was created by Olivier Polge, Chanel’s in-house perfumer creator. Crush Absolu builds on the familiar Coco Mademoiselle DNA with fruity, floral and woody-ambery notes, including grapefruit, lychee, vanilla, vetiver and the house’s signature patchouli.
The timing is no accident. With New York Fashion Week bringing designers, celebrities, influencers and fashion obsessives downtown, Chanel has effectively turned a fragrance launch into an event.
The campaign also stars Chanel ambassador Gracie Abrams, giving the pop-up an appropriately youthful, buzzy edge. The café setting mirrors the campaign and provides plenty of opportunities for the inevitable Instagram photo dump.
Appointments are recommended, but walk-ins are welcome, making this one of the easier luxury experiences to access during NYFW.
So, if you’re looking for something to do in NYC this weekend, Chanel has provided the perfect excuse to head downtown, smell expensive and temporarily convince yourself that buying another fragrance is actually a cultural experience.
Technically, it is.
It’s Chanel.
