In a world where getting dressed can sometimes feel like scrolling through 47 tabs of online shopping, Style Assembly is making a convincing case for the old-fashioned idea of actually knowing what looks good.
The Oxford, Mississippi, women’s boutique, founded by Kate B. Newman, has carved out a stylish niche on the historic Oxford Square, offering a carefully curated mix of clothing, handbags, shoes, jewelry, accessories and art. Rather than trying to sell everything to everyone, Style Assembly takes a more edited approach—essentially acting as the friend with excellent taste who tells you which dress to buy before you make a terrible decision.
Newman’s fashion résumé is almost as impressive as the merchandise. She spent more than 20 years in retail, including working as a wholesale account executive for luxury Italian brand Loro Piana in New York City. She also worked as a buyer and store manager for women’s boutiques in Fayetteville, Arkansas, and Oxford before launching Style Assembly.
That experience informs the store’s biggest selling point: curation.
Newman hand-selects brands with an eye toward making fashion feel sophisticated without becoming completely impractical. As a mother herself, she understands that looking polished and surviving actual daily life aren’t necessarily mutually exclusive. Revolutionary concept: clothes can be cute and functional.
Style Assembly has also become part of Oxford’s broader fashion and university community. Newman teaches fashion merchandising at the University of Mississippi and mentors students interested in careers in the industry. The boutique also proudly supports the Ole Miss community, including its sponsorship of the Grove Collective.
Located at 203 N. Lamar Boulevard, Style Assembly has both a physical storefront and an online shop, making it easy for shoppers to browse its carefully selected collections whether they’re strolling the Square or shopping from the couch.
