A fire broke out Wednesday at Ambassadors Clubhouse, the high-profile Indian restaurant in Manhattan’s NoMad neighborhood, temporarily forcing the popular destination to close.
The blaze sent smoke and flames pouring from the building at 1245 Broadway, prompting a significant response from the New York City Fire Department. Multiple fire companies were called to the scene as firefighters worked to bring the incident under control.
Ambassadors Clubhouse, which opened earlier this year, quickly became one of New York’s most sought-after restaurant reservations. The lavish two-level restaurant is the New York outpost of the team behind London’s acclaimed Gymkhana and draws inspiration from the grand party mansions of northern India.
According to reports and social media posts from diners, reservations later this week have already been canceled as the restaurant deals with the aftermath. Videos circulating online showed flames and heavy smoke around the entrance.
The extent of the interior damage and the cause of the fire remain unclear. Ambassadors Clubhouse has not yet announced when it expects to reopen.
The restaurant’s sudden closure comes just months after its highly anticipated New York debut, making the fire a major setback for one of NoMad’s newest culinary hotspots.
