SoHo is about to get another place to drink, because apparently New York City has decided we haven’t reached peak cocktail-bar saturation yet.
JBar is coming to 75 West Houston Street, bringing a new nightlife option to one of downtown Manhattan’s busiest restaurant and bar corridors. The address sits between Wooster Street and West Broadway, right in the middle of the action.
The arrival of JBar NYC adds another name to a stretch of West Houston Street already packed with restaurants, cafés, bars and shops. In other words, this is exactly the kind of neighborhood where you can start the night with dinner, say you’re only having one drink afterward and suddenly find yourself three cocktails deep somewhere completely different.
While details about JBar’s menu, design and exact opening date are still limited, the location itself is intriguing. The property at 75 W. Houston Street was previously home to Thomas Taft Salon, and the retail space has been marketed for a variety of potential uses.
That means there’s still plenty of mystery surrounding what JBar will ultimately become.
Will it be a cocktail destination? A neighborhood hangout? A late-night spot? New York loves keeping these things secret until the doors suddenly open and everyone’s Instagram feed is filled with martinis.
