Broadway has plenty of big performances, but Other Desert Cities is bringing something even more explosive to New York theater: family secrets, political divisions, and a living room where absolutely nobody should start a conversation without preparing for the consequences.

The Tony Award-nominated play by Jon Robin Baitz has returned to Broadway in a star-studded revival at the Hudson Theatre, with performances beginning September 29 and opening night scheduled for October 18, 2026. The limited engagement runs through January 17, 2027.

And the cast is reason enough to put this one on your theater calendar.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus, making her Broadway debut, stars alongside Ed Harris, Allison Janney, Joe Keery, and Lily Rabe. Directed by Tony Award winner John Benjamin Hickey, the production reunites a powerhouse group of performers for a drama that feels particularly relevant in today’s politically divided America.

The story unfolds on Christmas Eve at the Palm Springs home of the politically connected Wyeth family. Their holiday gathering takes a sharp turn when daughter Brooke returns with a memoir threatening to expose a long-buried family secret.

Naturally, the announcement doesn’t exactly inspire everyone to pass the eggnog.

As old wounds resurface, the family must confront questions about loyalty, memory, personal history, and who gets to control the story. It is the kind of gathering where a polite dinner conversation can turn into an emotional excavation—and where keeping a secret might be the family’s most complicated tradition.

Originally reaching Broadway in 2011, Other Desert Cities returns with a fresh cast and renewed relevance. Its mix of razor-sharp dialogue, political tension, and complicated family relationships makes it more than another nostalgic revival.

For anyone searching for the best Broadway plays in NYC, fall theater recommendations, or a compelling alternative to a musical, this production deserves serious consideration.

Catch it at the Hudson Theatre, 141 West 44th Street, while its limited run continues.

Because sometimes the most explosive drama on Broadway doesn’t need a single musical number—just one family, one memoir, and several decades of secrets.
