The early 2000s are officially calling—and apparently they still have your number.
MTV’s TRL is getting a reunion in New York City, with a studio-audience casting call for a special taping in Times Square. The event is expected to feature surprise celebrity guests, performances and plenty of nostalgia for anyone who remembers when watching music videos on television was somehow a full-time activity.
And naturally, one question is already dominating the nostalgia department:
*Will Justin Timberlake show up with NSYNC?
The short answer right now is: *there is no official confirmation that Justin Timberlake or NSYNC will appear.
The casting announcement promises surprise celebrity guests, but no celebrity lineup has been publicly revealed. One recent report says the taping is scheduled for October 1, 2026, but the guests remain under wraps.
That hasn’t stopped fans from doing what fans do best—connecting dots.
*NSYNC and TRL were practically inseparable during the show’s original run. Timberlake, JC Chasez, Joey Fatone, Lance Bass and Chris Kirkpatrick were regular fixtures of the era, and a Times Square TRL reunion naturally creates the perfect fantasy scenario for a *NSYNC comeback.
Unfortunately for anyone already practicing the choreography to “Bye Bye Bye,” recent comments from Joey Fatone suggest fans shouldn’t automatically expect a full *NSYNC reunion. Fatone recently said the group discussed whether anything might happen in the next few years and indicated there was no current plan for a reunion tour.
That doesn’t necessarily rule out a one-night TRL appearance—but there is currently no public evidence confirming one.
And honestly, MTV knows exactly what it’s doing by keeping the lineup secret.
The original Total Request Live ran from 1998 to 2008, turning Times Square into a screaming monument to pop culture.
Now the formula is back: mystery guests, screaming fans and enough nostalgia to make everyone suddenly remember their old AIM screen name.
So, will Justin Timberlake and *NSYNC appear?
