For Pete Davidson, fatherhood has brought a new perspective to one of the most painful chapters of his life—and even his daughter’s name carries a deeply personal connection to his late father and 9/11.
Davidson and model Elsie Hewitt welcomed their daughter, Scottie Rose Hewitt Davidson, on December 12, 2025. The couple chose the name Scottie as a tribute to Davidson’s father, Scott Matthew Davidson, a New York City firefighter who died while responding to the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
Davidson was only 7 years old when his father died. Scott was a firefighter with FDNY Ladder Company 118 in Brooklyn Heights, and he was among the first responders killed when the World Trade Center towers collapsed.
So, when Davidson and Hewitt welcomed their daughter, the choice of Scottie wasn’t exactly subtle—and that was the point.
Davidson recently explained that his father’s name was Scott, while his nickname was Scotty. He said it was especially meaningful that Hewitt also wanted to use the name, and that when their daughter arrived, they both felt she “looked like a Scottie.”
The timing has made the tribute even more emotional. As the 25th anniversary of 9/11 arrives, Davidson is now the same age his father was when he died: 33. He has said that becoming a father himself has changed the way he thinks about his father’s death.
“I thought, ‘Oh, he was an old guy. He’s 33,’” Davidson recently said, reflecting on what it means to imagine his own daughter growing up without her dad.
Davidson has also said that his daughter seems fascinated by photographs of her grandfather, even turning toward a picture of Scott when it was moved around their home. He admits he doesn’t know what to make of it—but likes to think his father’s presence is somehow still around.
For Davidson, Scottie Rose isn’t simply a baby name. It’s a connection between three generations—and a way of keeping Scott Davidson’s memory alive.
Twenty-five years after 9/11, the legacy of one New York firefighter continues through his son, his granddaughter and a name that carries a remarkable family story.
