Brooklyn has never exactly suffered from a shortage of pizza. But Frenzie, the new pizza and natural wine bar on Atlantic Avenue, is making a strong case for becoming the neighborhood’s latest late-night obsession.
Located at 129 Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn Heights, Frenzie comes from chefs Brendan Kelley and Daniel Grossman, the team behind neighboring restaurant Confidant. The concept is refreshingly simple: New York-style sourdough pizza, natural wine, cocktails and food served late enough to accommodate questionable decisions.
The pizza is the main attraction. Frenzie serves 14-inch pies made with a proprietary flour blend developed with Brooklyn Granary, resulting in crusts that are puffy, crisp and flavorful without requiring a PhD in pizza appreciation.
The menu includes familiar favorites with a Frenzie twist, including sausage and peppers, spicy vodka, white pizza and seasonal creations. Recent standouts include a sungold tomato pie with stracciatella—basically summer decided to become pizza.
Then there is the wine. Frenzie focuses exclusively on natural, biodynamic and organic wines, making it the kind of place where you can order a bottle and confidently say you’re “exploring the terroir” instead of admitting you simply wanted wine with your pizza.
And unlike many Brooklyn restaurants where getting a table requires planning three weeks ahead, Frenzie is walk-in only. That makes it particularly appealing for spontaneous dates, post-bar pizza runs and the timeless New York tradition of realizing at 1 a.m. that you haven’t eaten dinner.
Frenzie stays open until midnight Sunday through Thursday and 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday, giving Brooklyn a much-needed destination for quality late-night pizza.
So, is Frenzie the best pizza in Brooklyn? That’s a dangerous question.
But if you’re looking for great pizza in Brooklyn, natural wine and a late-night scene, Frenzie is definitely worth getting a little frenzied over.
