The Upper East Side has welcomed plenty of fancy restaurants, buzzy cafés and places where a sandwich can somehow cost $27. Now, it’s getting something a little more Jersey.
Jersey Mike’s has officially opened its first Upper East Side location at 1111 Lexington Avenue, bringing the Jersey Shore-born sandwich chain to one of Manhattan’s most densely packed neighborhoods. The new shop opened September 9, marking another major step in the brand’s rapid New York City expansion.
And yes, you can finally get a Jersey Mike’s sub on the Upper East Side without crossing a bridge—or explaining to someone why you’re willing to travel 45 minutes for a sandwich.
The menu is classic Jersey Mike’s: fresh-baked bread, meats and cheeses sliced to order, and the chain’s signature “Mike’s Way” preparation with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, oil, vinegar and spices.
For longtime fans, the arrival is less about discovering a new sandwich and more about having a familiar favorite suddenly become dangerously convenient.
Want an Italian sub? Done. Turkey and provolone? Obviously. Cheesesteak? Because apparently the Upper East Side needs another reason to debate whether a sandwich counts as dinner.
The opening also comes as Jersey Mike’s continues an aggressive expansion. The company has more than 3,300 locations across the U.S. and Canada, with hundreds more stores in development. The brand’s New York pipeline now includes several additional locations throughout the city and state.
The new Jersey Mike’s Upper East Side is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., making it a convenient option for lunch, dinner or that particularly New York meal known as “I haven’t eaten since breakfast.”
For a neighborhood accustomed to $20 salads and tasting menus, Jersey Mike’s brings something refreshingly uncomplicated.
It’s a sub. It’s made to order. And it’s from Jersey.
