New York City is getting a little more Scandinavian—and a lot more flat-pack furniture. IKEA is opening a new store in SoHo, bringing the Swedish home-furnishing giant directly into one of Manhattan’s busiest shopping neighborhoods.
The new IKEA SoHo is coming to 529 Broadway at Spring Street, with the store currently under construction and expected to open in Fall/Winter 2026.
And unlike the sprawling suburban IKEA experience that requires a road trip, a parking strategy and possibly a second marriage to assemble a dresser, the SoHo location is designed specifically for city living.
The approximately 25,000-square-foot IKEA store will occupy the first two floors of the building. Shoppers can expect a curated selection of IKEA furniture and home accessories that can be purchased and taken home the same day. There will also be a planning studio, where New Yorkers can get help designing kitchens, bathrooms and closets.
Then there’s the Swedish Deli, serving coffee and grab-and-go snacks—because nothing says I came to buy a $12 lamp and accidentally spent $400 quite like a Swedish snack break.
The location is part of IKEA’s broader push to bring its affordable furniture directly into major city centers. SoHo, which attracts more than 12 million visitors annually, is certainly a prime place to test the theory that New Yorkers want IKEA without having to leave Manhattan.
For anyone living in a tiny NYC apartment, the arrival could be particularly welcome. Storage solutions, compact furniture and those endlessly useful IKEA accessories are about to become significantly easier to access.
So, NYC: prepare your tote bags, measure your apartment twice and clear your weekend. IKEA SoHo is coming—and your Allen key is about to get a workout.
