Virgil Abloh is coming back to New York—this time, nearly 1,000 objects from his creative universe are making the trip. The late designer’s life, work, and cultural influence will take center stage in Virgil Abloh: The Codes, a major exhibition presented by the Virgil Abloh Foundation in partnership with Nike at The Shed.

Running December 10, 2026, through January 18, 2027, the exhibition promises a deep dive into the mind behind some of fashion and sneaker culture’s most influential collaborations. And no, this is not just an excuse to stare at expensive sneakers behind glass.

More Than Sneakers and Streetwear

Abloh famously blurred the lines between fashion, art, architecture, graphic design, and music. The exhibition will bring those worlds together through finished works, prototypes, sketches, and archival materials, revealing the ideas and experimentation behind his boundary-pushing designs.

Expect a closer look at the creative process that helped make his work with Nike—and his wider influence on contemporary culture—so distinctive. The presentation will also include a recreation of Abloh’s Paris office and an interactive media lab featuring selected raw design files, giving visitors a rare opportunity to explore how ideas became finished creations.

In other words, it is a chance to look beyond the hype and get inside the designer’s head.

Virgil Abloh’s Creative Code Lives On

Abloh, who died in 2021, helped reshape the relationship between luxury fashion and streetwear while inspiring a generation of young creatives to challenge convention. His approach treated design as an open conversation rather than a closed club—and that philosophy remains central to the exhibition.

For sneaker collectors, fashion obsessives, and anyone who appreciates the art of breaking the rules, Virgil Abloh: The Codes is shaping up to be one of New York’s must-see cultural events this winter.

The exhibition arrives at The Shed in Hudson Yards on December 10, with general-public tickets going on sale October 23.
