Broadway, come out to play! Lin-Manuel Miranda is taking Warriors, the gritty New York story inspired by the cult-classic 1979 film, to the Great White Way — and the newly announced cast is giving theater fans plenty to talk about.

The musical, co-written by Miranda and Eisa Davis, is scheduled to begin previews on March 9, 2027, at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, with opening night set for April 8. It marks Miranda’s return to Broadway with a new original musical following the phenomenon that was Hamilton.

From Cult Movie to Broadway Musical

For anyone who remembers the original The Warriors, the premise is pure New York chaos. A fictional Coney Island gang is framed for the murder of respected gang leader Cyrus during a summit in the Bronx. Suddenly, the group must cross a dangerous city to get home and prove its innocence.

Think one very long night on the subway — except with rival gangs, a fight for survival and a soundtrack built for the stage.

The production draws on the 2024 Warriors concept album, which brought together an eclectic roster of artists and musical influences. Expect a score that pulls from hip-hop, salsa, ska, rock and more, reflecting the many sounds that make New York unmistakably New York.

A Cast With Serious Broadway Credentials

The newly announced cast includes Jasmine Cephas Jones as Swan, Amber Gray as Ajax, Jaci Calderon as Fox, Aneesa Folds as Cleon, Sasha Allen as Cyrus and Casey Likes as Luther, alongside other Broadway performers.

Several cast members have connections to Miranda’s previous projects, including Hamilton, making this reunion especially exciting for longtime fans.

The production is directed by Jenny Koons, with Andy Blankenbuehler — the Tony-winning choreographer behind Hamilton — co-directing and choreographing.

When Can You See Warriors on Broadway?

Performances begin March 9, 2027, with opening night on April 8 at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre.

With a legendary New York story, a genre-blending score and Miranda back on Broadway, Warriors is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing theatrical events of 2027.
