Midtown is getting a little more glamorous this fall.
MAMO Restaurant is officially opening its new Midtown location on October 10, bringing the Italian restaurant’s signature mix of old-school nostalgia, modern style and celebrity-approved dining to the iconic Lipstick Building at 200 East 54th Street.
For New Yorkers who already know MAMO’s original SoHo restaurant at 323 West Broadway, the arrival uptown is less of a reinvention and more of an expansion. MAMO describes its food as a modern twist on Italian nostalgia, inspired by the Italian heritage of founder Mikaël “Mamo” Mammoliti’s family.
And the new Midtown address certainly knows how to make an entrance.
Housed inside the Lipstick Building, MAMO Midtown will serve lunch and dinner, with reservations already available and dinner hours stretching late into the evening on weekends. The restaurant is also embracing a smart-casual, elegant dress code—so perhaps leave the gym clothes at home.
Expect the kind of Italian comfort food that has made MAMO a destination in SoHo, including pasta, burrata, truffle-focused dishes and its famously indulgent truffle pizza. The original location has developed a following for its intimate atmosphere and dishes that understand one important New York rule: when in doubt, add truffle.
The October 10 opening also arrives at an interesting moment for Midtown dining. The neighborhood has been increasingly packed with restaurants that want to turn dinner into an occasion—and MAMO appears perfectly comfortable playing that game.
So whether you’re looking for a new Italian restaurant in Midtown NYC, a glamorous date-night destination or simply an excuse to order pasta you absolutely did not need, MAMO is making a strong case for adding 200 East 54th Street to the dinner rotation.
SoHo had MAMO first.
Now Midtown gets its turn.
And judging by the menu, someone should probably order the truffle pizza for the table.
