There are restaurants where you go for dinner, and then there are restaurants where dinner is clearly just the opening act. Primrose New York appears firmly committed to the latter.
Located at 127 West 26th Street, Primrose is the new Chelsea-area neighborhood eatery and cocktail bar where the menu jumps confidently from French onion dip to Peruvian chicken skewers, pizza, pasta and steak frites. In other words, choosing what to order may be the hardest part of the evening.
The Primrose NYC menu starts with shareables designed for the table. The Peruvian chicken skewers arrive with aji amarillo marinade, roasted peppers and green herb sauce, while the beef tartare gets served on crispy rice. There are also bao buns, ahi tuna tacos, meatballs and whipped hummus for anyone who believes ordering one appetizer is simply irresponsible.
Then come the pizzas. The Primrose Spicy combines Calabrian chili, soppressata, honey and fresh mozzarella, while the Truffle White brings wild mushrooms, mozzarella and truffle oil. The Margherita keeps things classic.
For something more substantial, the menu includes rigatoni alla vodka, cacio e pepe, a prime rib sandwich, the Primrose Smashburger and steak frites. There is even slow-roasted rib fried rice, because apparently the kitchen refuses to pick just one culinary lane.
And then there is dessert: a Sunday Sundae with vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, salted caramel and candied pecans, plus a burnt Basque cheesecake.
