New York’s favorite winter tradition is skating into a milestone year! The iconic ice rink at Rockefeller Center celebrates its 90th anniversary season in 2026, giving New Yorkers and visitors another reason to lace up their skates and glide into a little Manhattan magic.
Officially opening on Christmas Day in 1936, The Rink at Rockefeller Center began as a clever way to attract visitors to the sunken plaza. Nine decades later, it has become one of the city’s most recognizable attractions, bringing together generations of families, couples, tourists and aspiring figure skaters who may or may not have mastered the art of stopping.
The 2026–2027 skating season officially opens Saturday, October 10, so there’s no need to wait until December to get your winter fix. The season runs through March 27, 2027, with the rink serving up its signature combination of crisp air, city views and classic New York charm.
A New Chapter for a New York Classic
To celebrate 90 years on the ice, Rockefeller Center is introducing an all-new Skate House, an expanded VIP skating experience and special 90th-anniversary lodges. The new Skate House and VIP experience are scheduled to open November 14, adding fresh comforts to this beloved tradition. Holiday Chalets will also return for those who prefer their winter outings with a cozy rinkside retreat.
Of course, the magic remains familiar: skaters circling beneath the watchful gaze of the gilded Prometheus statue, surrounded by Midtown’s spectacular architecture. When the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree arrives later in the season, the setting becomes even more cinematic.
Whether you’re planning a romantic date, a family outing or a festive afternoon with friends, the rink’s 90th season promises plenty of reasons to celebrate.
Ninety years later, Rockefeller Center is still proving that in New York, making memories is always in season—and falling gracefully is entirely optional.
