Jalen Brunson has officially added another line to the most New York résumé imaginable: Saturday Night Live host.
Just months after leading the New York Knicks to their first NBA championship in 53 years and being named Finals MVP, Brunson walked into Studio 8H for his SNL debut on September 26, 2026, opening Season 52 alongside musical guest KATSEYE.
Because apparently winning a championship wasn’t enough.
Brunson’s SNL appearance was particularly notable because he became just the fifth NBA player to host the legendary sketch show, joining an extremely short list that includes Bill Russell, Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley and LeBron James. He was also the first Knicks player to host SNL.
And the timing could hardly have been more New York.
Brunson arrived at SNL as the reigning NBA champion after the Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs in the 2026 NBA Finals. He averaged 32.6 points during the five-game Finals, including 45 points in the title-clinching Game 5.
Naturally, Madison Square Garden also made its way into the jokes.
During his opening monologue, Brunson referenced returning to MSG and joked about the arena having recently hosted the wedding of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce—a particularly New York intersection of basketball, pop culture and celebrity spectacle.
The SNL appearance also came just two days before Knicks media day on September 28, meaning Brunson went from Studio 8H back to basketball mode almost immediately.
For Brunson, it was quite the detour from his usual Saturday night routine.
Normally, he’s putting up points.
This time, he was trying to get laughs—and somehow New York still made it feel like a home game.
