The Upper East Side is getting another sushi spot, but this one comes with a little Australian beach energy. Bondi Sushi is planning a second Upper East Side location in Yorkville, bringing its fresh seafood, creative rolls and fast-casual approach even farther uptown.
The NYC sushi brand confirmed plans for the new Yorkville location, marking another expansion for the growing Bondi Sushi empire. The restaurant already operates at 1140 Third Avenue, but apparently one Upper East Side location wasn’t enough.
For the uninitiated, Bondi Sushi takes its inspiration from Bondi Beach in Sydney, combining sushi-bar staples with a more casual, approachable format. The menu includes nigiri, sashimi, hand rolls, crispy rice, maki rolls and build-your-own bowls, making it equally suited to a quick lunch, dinner or takeout situation.
And there is plenty to choose from. Current Bondi favorites include spicy tuna, salmon avocado, yellowtail scallion, lobster yuzu rolls and crispy rice, while larger combo boxes let diners mix and match multiple rolls. There are also rice bowls loaded with everything from spicy tuna to lobster and shrimp.
The brand was founded in New York in 2017 by Aiden Carty and David Hess and has continued expanding throughout the city. In addition to the Upper East Side, Bondi Sushi currently has locations in NoMad, Nolita, Tribeca, the Upper West Side, Williamsburg and Bryant Park.
The exact address and opening date for the new Yorkville Bondi Sushi have not yet been announced, so sushi fans will have to wait for more details.
But one thing is already clear: the Upper East Side is getting another place to roll with it.
And this time, you don’t need a passport—or a flight to Sydney—to get the Bondi experience.
