Want to visit the 9/11 Memorial & Museum in New York City without spending $24 to $36 on admission? There are several ways to get in for free—and one of them is available to the general public every Monday.
The 9/11 Memorial & Museum offers Free Admission Mondays, with complimentary museum tickets available for visits between 5:30 and 7 p.m. The catch? Tickets are limited and are released online every Monday at 7 a.m. ET, so you’ll want to set an alarm, make some coffee and move faster than someone trying to snag a last-minute Broadway ticket.
There is another option for New Yorkers. New York First Sundays offers free admission from 4 to 7 p.m. on the first Sunday of every month to people who live, work or study in New York City. You’ll need valid identification, and reservations are required.
The museum also participates in Museums for All, meaning visitors who receive SNAP benefits can receive free admission by presenting their EBT card at the box office. Up to four tickets can be obtained per person through the program.
There are also free-admission options for certain groups, including 9/11 family members, 9/11 community members, active FDNY, NYPD and PAPD personnel, and active-duty or retired U.S. military members and veterans, with eligibility requirements and identification varying by group.
And remember: the 9/11 Memorial itself is always free and open to the public seven days a week. The museum is a separate experience and normally requires a ticket.
So if you’ve been meaning to visit, don’t automatically reach for your wallet.
Just remember: Monday at 7 a.m. is your moment.
