Getting SNL tickets in New York City is basically the Broadway version of winning the lottery—except the tickets are free, the odds are brutal, and nobody cares if your aunt once dated a guy who knows Lorne Michaels.
The good news: Saturday Night Live tickets are free. The bad news: getting into Studio 8H requires some luck, patience and a willingness to embrace a little organized chaos.
Enter the SNL Ticket Lottery
The best way to get SNL tickets is the show’s annual ticket lottery. For the 2026–2027 SNL season, the lottery ran from August 1 through August 31. Fans entered by sending one email to SNLTICKETS@NBCUNI.COM with their first and last name and a short explanation of why they wanted to attend. Winners are selected randomly and receive two tickets to a randomly assigned show.
Translation: You cannot pick your favorite host, choose the perfect Saturday or demand seats next to the cast. The Broadway gods—or, more accurately, NBC—are in charge.
The minimum age is 16, and guests should be prepared to show valid photo identification.
Missed the Lottery? Try SNL Standby
If your lottery luck is roughly equivalent to your odds of getting a table at Carbone on Saturday night, there is another option: SNL standby tickets.
Standby reservations typically open online at 10 a.m. ET on Thursday before a show. You can request standby for either the 8 p.m. dress rehearsal or the 11:30 p.m. live broadcast. If you receive a reservation number, you’ll then need to check in at the designated standby location on Friday evening.
And here’s the important part: a standby reservation does not guarantee admission. You are essentially asking SNL to have a seat available when the dust settles.
Don’t Buy SNL Tickets
Here’s the biggest SNL ticket tip: don’t pay someone hundreds of dollars online for a supposedly guaranteed ticket. SNL tickets are not normally sold to the public, and legitimate routes are free. Rockefeller Center specifically warns fans that tickets aren’t sold and recommends avoiding third-party sellers.
So if seeing Saturday Night Live live in NYC is on your bucket list, start with the lottery, keep an eye on standby opportunities and prepare for a little patience.
Because in New York, sometimes the hottest ticket in town costs nothing—but getting it may cost you your entire Thursday night.
