New York City’s South Street Seaport is getting a little bit of the Wild West. Mesa Bar, a new Southwestern-inspired cocktail and wine bar, is coming to 220 Front Street in the Historic South Street Seaport District.
Expected to open later this year, Mesa is the latest addition to a stretch of historic Front Street that has been filling up with restaurants, bars and neighborhood hangouts. And this one is taking its inspiration from somewhere considerably farther west.
The new NYC bar comes from Levent Cakir, a longtime New York bartender and veteran of West Village institution Turks & Frogs. Cakir is bringing his longtime fascination with the American West into the concept, imagining Mesa as something like a New Mexico ranch house dropped into the middle of Lower Manhattan.
Expect Southwestern-inspired cocktails, a curated wine list, cold beer and shareable bar snacks. The food lineup will include salsa flights, elote and empanadas, giving you plenty of excuses to order another round.
The atmosphere is expected to be just as important as what’s in the glass. Mesa will feature warm woods, textured walls, Western artwork and collected objects, all layered into the exposed brick and iron columns of the historic Front Street building.
And then there’s the entertainment. Mesa plans to incorporate vinyl, Spaghetti Western screenings and intimate wine tastings, giving the new Seaport bar a little more personality than your average place to grab a drink.
The exact opening date, hours and full menu for Mesa Bar NYC have not yet been announced, so there is still some mystery surrounding the launch.

Because apparently the Seaport needed a little more cowboy energy.
