Forget the roses. Forget the chocolates. National Taco Day is the holiday New Yorkers can actually get behind.

This year, the deliciously important occasion lands on Tuesday, October 6, meaning National Taco Day and Taco Tuesday have joined forces to create what may be the most powerful combination since tequila met lime.

And if you’re celebrating in New York City, you have approximately a million ways to do it.

For a classic NYC taco pilgrimage, head to LOS TACOS No.1 at Chelsea Market. The cult favorite is known for handmade tortillas and grilled meats, with the adobada and carne asada among the popular orders.

Downtown, LOS TACOS No.1 on Lafayette Street is another excellent option when the craving strikes. Prefer Midtown? LOS TACOS No.1 near Times Square makes a particularly convenient stop before or after a Broadway show.

For something a little more Brooklyn, Taqueria Ramirez in Greenpoint has earned plenty of attention for its tacos and traditional approach. Just be prepared to order several—the tacos are intentionally small, which is New York’s sneaky way of encouraging a second round.

Meanwhile, recent additions to the city’s taco scene are giving longtime favorites some competition. El Califa de León, the famous Mexico City taqueria that became the world’s first Michelin-starred taqueria, opened in Flatiron this year, while Santo Taco in Nolita has been getting attention for its steak trompo taco.

And for Upper East Siders, Tacombi on East 70th Street offers tacos, margaritas and plenty of neighborhood-friendly Mexican comfort food.

So, how should you celebrate National Taco Day NYC?

Simple: eat tacos until someone asks if you’re still hungry.

The correct answer is always yes.
